GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
IsraAID’s Head of Protection will work together with the technical unit, regions and resilience, and emergency department to develop the sector’s capacity to support emergency and ongoing operations in the COs and uphold high technical standards of programming and operations. IsraAID’s head of Protection will lead the development of the sector in IsraAID on a global level, supporting IsraAID Protection HQ and global teams and strengthen IsraAID positioning in global Protection forums. The HOS activity will be specifically designed according to a development plan based on the sector’s annual goals and field needs.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND COMPETENCIES
Main areas of responsibility:
- Take leadership in the strategic development of IsraAID protection sector.
- Oversee and contribute to the development of the sectoral body of knowledge in accordance with most recent theoretical developments and humanitarian aid agenda, in resilience and humanitarian settings.
- Continue to develop and offer leadership in the building of IsraAID Protection communities of experts.
- Act as the direct manager of technical advisors, offering technical support to Protection program practitioners in IsraAID missions globally.
- Work in collaboration with IsraAID department and colleagues to promote a holistic unified approach to programs and protection programs in specific.
Detailed responsibilities:
Take leadership in the strategic development of IsraAID protection sector in resilience and humanitarian settings.
- Offer leadership in the design and implementation of the sector strategic workplan.
- Directly manage and implement the sector annual plan.
- Participate in meetings and seminars at HQ levels as necessary.
- Represent IsraAID in global and international forums and conferences.
- Lead the involvement of IsraAID’s Protection sector in the global sphere (WGs, Conferences, taskforces).
- Lead the protection mainstreaming global processes, trainings and implementation across sectors.
Oversee and contribute to the development of the sectoral body of knowledge in accordance to most recent theoretical developments and humanitarian aid agenda, in resilience and humanitarian settings.
- Design, organize and develop the sectoral body of knowledge (including but not limited to: guidelines, models, evaluations).
- Develop appropriate M&E tools for the different types of intervention programs together with the MEAL coordinator and the country offices.
- Develop appropriate programming tools for the development, implementation and closing of Protection programs in emergency and stable environments
Act as the direct manager of technical advisors, offering technical support to Protection program practitioners in IsraAID missions globally.
- Directly manage IsraAID HQ Protection technical advisors (Resilience and emergency programs)
- Offer technical support to 1\2 deployed teams delivering Protection programs in emergency operations as needed, in accordance to program cycle.
Continue to develop and offer leadership in the building of IsraAID Protection communities of experts.
- Create and support platforms for mutual engagements amongst IsraAID’s Protection teams.
- Lead the capacity-building activities (yearly program and other relevant activities) for the Protection team together with the senior technical advisor.
- Develop and Conduct orientation for IsraAID protection staff prior, during and post their mission
Work in collaboration with IsraAID department and colleagues to promote a holistic unified approach to programs and protection programs in specific.
- Participate in heads of sectors meetings and forums
- Take part in the development and implementation of multi-sectoral project and cross cutting processes.
- Lead and take part in cross cutting programmatic processes.
- Support HR and COs in technical recruitment processes.
- Support the communications department in providing technical advisement for fundraising processes.
- Support regions and resilience and EmOpps sub departments in technical Protection related partnerships on a local and global level.
Representation
- Have a thorough understanding of IsraAID mission statement, organizational identity and theory of change.
- Raise the profile of IsraAID, its work and country missions through active participation in Interaction forum, and external events when possible.
- Serve as advocate for the country missions and the organization
- Perform other duties as assigned. The duties and responsibilities listed above are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive.
Qualifications:
- Fluent written and spoken English, Spanish- advantage.
- M.A. level of academic background in Psychology, social work, psychotherapy or similar mental health related studies.
- Proven experience in implementing Protection programs in the context of developing countries, crisis zone, or emergency settings
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in Protection programs.
- Experience in Protection policy development - Advantage.
- Proven background in staff guidance and supervision.
- Israel based position- Advantage
Conditions
- Full time position.
- Office working days Sunday- Thursday.
- Commitment to align with Israel working hours as required, and no less than 5 hours daily.
- At least 3 working days per week from IsraAID office (if based in Israel)
- If home based- willingness to travel at least 3 times per year to the HQ.
- Minimum 2-3 deployments during the year of up to 3 weeks each.
